Team punches ticket by winning South Atlantic Premier League
31 goals scored and only four against. It sounds like the stats belonging to a good team going to an easy tournament, but in the case of the 00G NPL, there was nothing easy about this event. The FC Alliance team recently won the South Atlantic Premier League's ten-team derby to earn a spot in the NPL National Finals. Their dominant run saw them win seven of eight games to finish first in a division which featured high profile clubs such as Atlanta Fire United, CESA, Triangle United, Norcross, and Charlotte United.
It was a long road in the ultra-competitive league, starting back in August of 2013 and not finishing until June of this year. This created a situation where games were played in a variety of conditions: from the summer heat to the winter cold of December and January.
"It has definitely been a great experience for our team," said Girls DOC, Josh Gray. " Participating in the league has been great for the players development, and it has pushed them to compete at the highest level."
The National Premier League finals will be held July 10-14 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The schedule hasn't been released yet as some divisions are still finishing up their games.
"We're going with the mindset that we can win the entire thing," added Gray. "There will be some fantastic clubs there, but we're capable of competing with anyone. We're excited about being there, but we won't be satisfied by just showing up."
