FC Alliance Teams Meet for State Title
99 Girls Gold outlasts 99 Gold North 1-0 in championship

The success of the FC Alliance Gold program could not be better summed up by what happened in Sunday’s U14 Girls Division 3 state championship game.  After a grueling round of pool play games, and after surviving semifinals clashes, only two out of eleven squads remained.  And they were both FC Alliance teams: the 99 Girls Gold and the 99 Girls Gold North.  Two teams from the same club meeting in a state title game is certainly a rare event, and although both teams wanted to the crown badly, there was a tremendous amount of camaraderie shown throughout.  In the end, a twelfth minute goal by 99 Gold held up, as they claimed a 1-0 win over their club brethren.

The route to the finals wasn’t easy for either team.  After winning 1-0 and 2-0 the first day, the 99 Gold survived a rugged 2-1 semifinal over Lady Fusion 99.  None of their three games were remotely comfortable, as they also knocked off the Lady Royals of Clarksville and Jackson Football Club.  The 99 Girls North won 2-0 in their first pool play game and needed a dramatic 1-0 win over Tennessee United Blue to advance to the semifinals.  To get to the title game, 99 North beat Stones River 4-2 to punch their ticket.

99 Gold is coached by David Clothier and 99 North is coached by Darrick Lubell and Tim McMahan.
