Club adds winner of 17 state championships and national finalist
Laban DeFriese, the current executive director of Nashville Football Club and a longtime director of Tennessee Soccer Club, has accepted a position to coach for FC Alliance. DeFriese is considered the most successful girls soccer coach in the history of the state, winning 17 state championships and leading a team to a Division 1 national championship game- the only time a team from Tennessee has ever made it that far. He is widely credited with turning the Tennessee Soccer Club girls program into one of the region's best and then doing the same for Nashville FC.
This move east to Knoxville is sending a shock wave through the state, as DeFriese has been drawing the top girls players in Nashville to his teams for more than a decade. His former players have played at such schools as Duke, Clemson, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, BYU and Louisville. Karly Paschall of Coach DeFriese's '98 Azzurri team went on to spend two years on the US Women's U17 national team.
Coach DeFriese will be bringing his Premier Development Soccer Academy with him, a program for players looking for extra training and development opportunities.
