Thundering Herd snag third FC Alliance player in four years
When Marshall University scours the nation for talent, one club it always checks in on is FC Alliance. For the third time in four years, the NCAA Division 1 men's team from West Virginia has picked up an Alliance player. This year, 97 Boys RPL star Cameron Schneider got the offer and subsequently committed to the Thundering Herd. In 2012, it was Ben Holt. Three years ago, Bijan Gloston inked his name on the dotted line.
"Another year, another one of our kids picks Marshall," commented Director Josh Gray. "It is a great school and great soccer program. We're very comfortable sending our players there."
Schneider has had a storied career with the club. The regional ODP player made his mark in club history by scoring the game winning goal against defending national champion Team Boca in the Region 3 tournament. The goal pushed the 97 Boys RPL team into the region semifinals.
"He is a flashy, skillful and great player," Gray said. "But mainly, he is a great kid."
Schneider has also starred at Hardin Valley Academy for the past three years. As a junior last Spring, he was named to the Class AAA All-State first team.
