Dami Omitaomu becomes National League scoring leader
Throughout the existence of FC Alliance, the club has had teams accomplish some extremely impressive feats. This includes success at state, regional and national levels. However, no feat can be more impressive than what the 98 Boys NL accomplished at the prestigious Disney Showcase over the holidays. After winning the vaunted National League bracket, the team won the overall tournament championship in the top division for U17 boys. Along the way, Dami Omitaomu became the National League scoring leader with six goals against some of America's toughest competition.
"It's hard to put into words how proud I am of this team," stated Jon Schneider, the team's coach and FC Alliance Boys Director of Coaching. "Going in we knew this would be a tremendous challenge. The boys really were impressive with their effort and quality of play."
The format of the tournament is unique. The winner of the National League bracket moves on to play the winner of the tournament's top division of teams not in National League. After knocking off national juggernauts Arlington Impact (Virginia) and Continental Premier (Pennsylvania), the 98 Boys finished first in the National League bracket with a 1-1 tie against the Houstonians of Texas. This set up a final against Sporting Blue Valley (Kansas), who went unbeaten in bracket play. FC Alliance won the championship with a solid 3-1 win.
Lost in all the team success, was the individual accomplishments of Dami Omitaomu. He became the National League's top scorer with six goals.
"This is a great accomplishment for our club," commented Director Josh Gray. "The 98 Boys have been a great team since they were 9 years old and it is awesome to see them keep up the very high level that they have always played at. "To me they are the best boys team to ever come out of East Tennessee."
The 98 Boys are 5 time defending state champions.
