Team preparing for state and regional tournaments in June
The 95 Girls Black are no strangers to success. The defending state champions and regional powerhouse have secured yet another honor. This time, it is the Region Premier League title. The FC Alliance squad, coached by Josh Gray, played up to the U18 division due to a lack of U17 teams, although they were technically competing for the U17 title. In eight games, they never lost, grabbing six wins and two ties. Five of those wins came against U18 teams, an impressive feat considering it is the Premier League.
Their primary competition for the U17 crown was the 95 Lady Lobos of Memphis, their perennial rival for top state honors. Although that game ended with a 2-2 tie in early March, the 95 Girls Black performed better in the league itself to win the championship. In an interesting twist of fate, one of the deciding common opponents was the older 94 Lady Lobos. The FC Alliance team beat them 2-0 the day after the tie with the 95 team. However, the 95 Lady Lobos couldn’t replicate the feat, falling to their club mates 5-4 several weeks later.
The 95 Black defeated teams from Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas en route to the title.
